This site is very much a Work In Progress so please be patient as more content is added!
Birds of a Feather is a collaborative project with a simple purpose: to gather bird-related resources in a hub for bird-people (ie. therians and otherkin who identify in part or whole as birds; who feel they are type of bird or bird-like creature, instead of or along with being human, identity-wise).
Due to our “non-mammal” experiences, we may have felt estranged not only from humanity but sometimes also from other therians & otherkin. There has been many writings in these communities from a mammalian point of view (such as felines’ and canines’), which echoes the importance society at large gives to certain species over others. For some of us it has been difficult to find ourselves in there – to find our peers as well as our own voices and words. It can be difficult to discuss our experiences together when there is no mainstream imagery or language that “resonates” with us.
We know that “birdness” is a broad, vague term; there may be no shared experience of “being a bird”, only specifics. Our purpose isn’t to create some sort of hegemony of what it means to be avian. We are no authority on the subject and our directories aren’t exhaustive by any means. What we would like is trying to make bird-related writings, lore and interesting references more accessible for others, especially if said materials may be useful to one’s own soulsearching and personal journey.
If you know of a website, writing, community and such as that is relevant for this project, please let us know so we can include a link! We also accept submissions if you want us to host your essays and musings on being avian directly here; for the more prolific writers, we can even set up an account for you. Our contact informations are in the “Authors” page.
